
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th in 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans over 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her smooth, mellow vocals and smooth contralto voice and recorded more than 30 albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was the recording of "Cry Me a River" that she introduced in her debut album. Alongside her music-related recognition, London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began in 1944 when she was cast in films. This included roles as the lead female role in a variety of westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional career in music. The album she released was her last studio album in the year 1969, but achieved continuing success playing the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she was co-starring alongside Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
