Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaking event organizer. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site with video content and blogs on the representations of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines the role of women in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. Destroying stereotypes about women are the main goals of her organization. She also is keen to draw attention to things like harassing and targeted attacks against women on the internet. With a master's in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaking engagement and has given talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and also the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was interested in gender issues and feminism since a young age. When she was in 2009, she was a student at the University of Toronto, Sarkeesian created the website Feminist Frequency. The site was about to launch a series of online videos that examined the gender representations in video games at the time she came under the sway of cyber-bullying. However, the harassment didn't dissuade her. It only strengthened her reputation as a feminist journalist. She has won numerous awards due to her prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit exploring the role of women in popular culture narratives.
